The Paris authorities want to ban the rental of electric scooters to residents and visitors of the French capital. Given the sensitivity of the issue, the city administration intends to hold a referendum. This was stated by the mayor of the city Ana Hidalgo.
According to the mayor herself, the uncontrolled rental of electric scooters in the city should be prohibited. But democracy is democracy, and in early April the people of Paris will have to make a decision.
– In the vote, which will be organized on April 2, I will ask the Parisians a question so that they understand what they want. They will have to answer a simple question: should scooters be left for free rent? In my opinion, this must stop,” Hidalgo said.
The mayor believes that traffic on the streets of the French capital has become too chaotic after a large number of electric mopeds and scooters were added to cars and bicycles.
In addition, at the beginning of the summer, the Paris authorities intend to develop a new traffic code that regulates the behavior of scooter and bicycle owners on the streets of the city.
With these measures, the Parisian administration hopes that travel will be safer in the city of more than 2 million inhabitants.
