The summer trips and the high temperatures have not been enough to prevent the Spaniards from making their position clear in this electoral event. After a high turnout until 2:00 p.m. with 40.48%, and the collapse at 6:00 p.m. when 53.12% of voters voted, voting by mail, which is not counted in the advances, has driven participation to rise to 70.18%, which is four points more than in the 2019 general elections.
Some data provided at a press conference at the National Electoral Data Dissemination Center by the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, and the Government spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez. Both have thanked the citizens for their participation in the polls and the normality with which the day has developed, and have had a special mention for the members of the tables, who have had to deal with the heat of July.
Marlaska also wanted to thank the work of the more than 90,000 members of the security forces who have ensured the peaceful development of the appointment with the polls.
Despite the heat and the holiday period, the influx of citizens to the polling stations has been greater than expected, although it must be taken into account that 2.4 million votes by mail are computed in this participation, a historical figure.
Even so, many voters have wanted to appear in person at this appointment with the polls and have brought forward their return from a weekend with eleven autonomous communities on yellow or orange alert due to high temperatures.
According to data provided to EFE by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), 30% of the drivers who left on Friday to enjoy the weekend returned to their city of origin on Saturday and 50% did the same this morning.
