But they must be carried out in such a way as to maintain proper order in this place, which would correspond to its meaning as “the center of the Russian state.” The patriarch also said that this is his request and wish for those who “have both the power and the opportunity to bring this place to a status that would correspond to the center, to the heart of the Russian state.”
This was the reaction of Patriarch Kirill to the message of the director of the Moscow Kremlin Museums, Elena Gagarina, that during the restoration fragments of churches from the period of Ivan Kalita and Ivan III were discovered in the Assumption Cathedral of the Kremlin. Unsurprisingly, archaeologists plan to dig four more shafts to understand the state of the foundations. The question of whether they can be “museified” is also being studied: in the future, archaeological windows can be made and shown to visitors to the Kremlin.
