The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has published a list of cars whose owners will pay a luxury tax

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce clarified which car is a luxury and which is just a means of transportation. Luxury cars, according to the legislation of the Russian Federation, include cars …
… at a price of 10-15 million rubles and not older than 10 years;
… more expensive than 15 million rubles, not older than 20 years.
Owners of such cars must pay a transport tax three times. In common people – “a tax on luxury.” To help drivers (well, not to get confused and pay less), the Ministry of Industry and Commerce published on April 13 a list of 449 car models that are subject to an increased rate.
Compared to last year’s list, the current list has grown by a hundred models. For example, it was decorated with Audi A8, Aston Martin Vantage, BMW M8 Grand Coupe. There are also Russian cars on the list. Lada owners, do not panic: from domestic luxury, only models of the luxury brand Aurus arrived.
By the way, the tax authorities do not care how much you actually bought the car for. If your best friend gave you a new Bugatti Veyron for a chocolate bar, you still pay triple tax, because this car is on the list of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. The exact amount of the payment depends on the region in which the car is registered – each region and republic has its own transport tax. The owners of such cars will receive notifications from the tax authorities about the payment of a triple fee for 2023 in 2024.

Why did you raise the bar?
A couple of years ago, cars more expensive than 3 million rubles were taxed with a “luxury tax”. And then it started. First, the pandemic, with its shortage of electronic components and microchips, which caused cars to rise in price considerably. Then, on 02/24/2022, the departure of foreigners, problems with spare parts and new cars, a new jump in prices…
In general, taking 3 million as a starting point to turn an ordinary car into a luxury has become somewhat ridiculous. Toyota Camry, Skoda Kodiaq, Chevrolet Camaro – these and many other cars are as luxurious as Lisbon in first gear. And all of them already cost more than 3 million rubles. Therefore, a year ago, the government raised the bar, after which a luxury tax is imposed, to 10 million rubles.
