This person is still called “Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China” – Wang Yi held this position from 2012 to 2022. But last December, he went even higher, becoming head of the Foreign Affairs Commission Office of the CPC Central Committee. Let us remember that China is a parliamentary republic, and it is the ruling Communist Party that determines the government’s policy in all spheres, including the international one.

And on the eve of spring, one of the most experienced diplomats from Asia arrived in Moscow for two days at once. “Quite by accident” happened on February 21, a day after US President Joe Biden’s unexpected visit to kyiv. Opinions were even expressed that the 46th president’s trip should have erased the impression of the Russian-Chinese rapprochement; otherwise everyone would have seen again that US attempts to “diplomatically isolate the Kremlin” once again failed.

But if the trip of the owner of the White House in Eastern Europe was accompanied by high-profile PR actions, then the Moscow meetings of Comrade Wang (in China, the surname is the first of two words in the name) took away out in peace. and calm. On February 21, he met with the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Patrushev.

Both sides expressed their willingness to “develop multipolarity”, “resist (Western) intimidation” and strengthen security in the Pacific region. It is there that the “Chinese Ukraine” is located, Taiwan, turned by the Americans into a potential conflict point.

And then on February 22, Wang Yi spoke with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“We will do everything possible to promote the solution of the tasks formulated by our leaders in contact with you and with the new Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang,” Lavrov assured the opening guest of the meeting. “Our relations are developing steadily and dynamically.

“We are very glad to meet you again, my old friend,” Comrade Wang replied to this. — Despite the volatility of the international situation, China and Russia are advancing firmly and confidently in line with the formation of a multipolar world.

The conversation then continued behind closed doors. The contents, of course, are not disclosed, but guesses can be made. For example, Lavrov’s phrase in the public part of the meeting is interesting: “Russia and China continue to closely coordinate their foreign policy efforts.”

The main world problem is known to everyone – the Ukrainian crisis. And it appears that Beijing is trying to broker a deal. It can be assumed that Chinese President Xi Jinping will express his proposals during his visit to Russia, which is scheduled for this spring. For example: stop the supply of arms to Ukraine, which the West has been doing for the last year, a ceasefire and intensify the peace process. And now, probably, there was a “clock synchronization” on the eve of the next trip of the party and government leader to Moscow.

Another thing is that the West is unlikely to agree to such peace initiatives. But in any case, Russia and China are doing everything possible to maintain strategic stability, which is why the contact of these two players is so important.
