The doctor who examined the suspect considered that “the state of health of the pensioner is incompatible with the measure of detention in police custody.”

The TV channel, citing the Paris prosecutor’s office, also said that “the preventive measure in the form of police custody was canceled for health reasons” and that the investigation is ongoing.

A spokesman for the French capital’s prosecutor’s office also said the “racist motive” for the murder was added to the investigation file.

According to BFM, the shooter told police that he was planning to target the Kurdish community.

Until his retirement, the defendant worked as a train driver, a French national. Shortly before noon on Friday, he fired several shots at people near a Kurdish cultural center located in a busy shopping district in central Paris.

Three people, two men and one woman, died, three more men were injured, one seriously.

The shooter had been under investigation previously, that is, since December 2021. He was accused of using gun violence against people of other nationalities. He was suspected of stabbing migrants in a Paris tent camp.

According to the prosecutor, after a year in pretrial detention, he was released on December 12 and placed under judicial supervision.

In addition, in 2017 he was sentenced to six months in prison for illegal possession of a weapon, and last June to twelve months in prison for armed violence committed in 2016. The Frenchman appealed against this verdict.
