Combat the high rate of inflation – which closed 2022 at almost 6% – as a result of the war in Ukraine. This is the objective of what is one of the most important innovations that flourish for permanent disability since this month of January: the 8.5% increase in the minimum and maximum amounts for this type of pension and the four degrees that contemplate the National Institute of Social Security -partial, total, absolute and great disability-. For their part, non-contributory pensions for permanent disability will experience a rise of up to 15%. This is how the Government of Spain contemplated it in the General State Budget for 2023.
With this increase, the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations, led by José Luis Escrivá, aims to save the purchasing power of nearly one million people who receive a permanent disability pension in Spain. This group includes those who are included in any Social Security scheme who meet the requirements for each degree of disability, both general and contribution: if the disability derives from an accident -regardless of whether or not it is work- It is not necessary to have previous quotes.
Thus, it is estimated that the average permanent disability pension can increase by almost 100 euros per month. In 2022, this was 1,019 euros, so it is possible that it could be 1,106 euros in 2023, when applying the revaluation of contributory pensions of 8.5%.
Maximum amount of pension for permanent disability
The Social Security defines permanent disability as an economic benefit that tries to cover the loss of income suffered by a worker when his working capacity is reduced or canceled due to illness or accident. To start the procedures, the interested parties can do it ex officio, at their own request or at the request of the collaborating entities.
Every year, the Government of Spain establishes the maximum amount of pension that can be accessed by people with very high contributions or who receive one or more contributory pensions at the same time. In 2022, this amount was 39,468.77 euros per year, divided into 14 payments (12 monthly payments and two extraordinary ones), which translates into 2,819.19 euros per month.
In 2023 this will change. The approved increase means that the maximum pension stands at 42,822 euros per year, distributed in 14 payments: 3,058.71 euros per month.
Minimum amount of pension for permanent disability
Similarly, the Executive determines a minimum amount for each of the categories of contributory pensions that are contemplated.
The total disability pension has an amount equivalent to 55% of the regulatory base, although it can reach 75% if the beneficiary is at least 55 years old and unemployed.
In the case of the pension for absolute permanent disability, it is equivalent to 100% of the regulatory base. This also happens with the severe disability pension, although other economic supplements are added due to the need for the beneficiary to have the help of third parties to carry out their daily actions. Hence, this is the highest: this year, the amount goes from 1,335.80 euros to 1,449.34 euros, divided into 14 payments if you have a dependent spouse.
Great Disability
With a dependent spouse: it goes from 1,335.80 to 1,448.80 euros per month. Without a spouse: it goes from 1,082.60 to 1,173.53 euros per month.
Absolute or total permanent disability pensions of 65 years or more
With dependent spouse: 965 euros per month and 13,519 euros per year. With non-dependent spouse: 743 euros per month and 10,405 euros per year.
Total permanent disability pensions between 60 and 64 years of age
With dependent spouse: 906 euros per month and 12,682 euros per year. With non-dependent spouse: 692 euros per month and 9,694 euros per year.
Total permanent disability pensions derived from common illness in people under 65 years of age
With a dependent spouse and without a spouse: 577 euros per month and 8,081 euros per year.
Non-contributory pension for disability or invalidity
The monthly remuneration of people who receive a disability pension will become 484.61 euros per month Non-contributory disability pension with an increase of 50%: 726.9 euros per month.
