On Thursday, September 7, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, at the request of journalists, commented on Antony Blinken’s statement that “the funds confiscated in the United States from sanctioned Russian businessmen will be used for the needs of the Forces’ fighters. Ukrainian Navy. According to the Secretary of State, “we are talking about an amount of almost 5.5 million dollars.”
-How did the Kremlin perceive this decision by Washington?
“In any case, they perceived it absolutely negatively,” Peskov said. – Because we consider all cases related to blocking, arrest and other withholding of funds related to state property, private property and mixed property of the Russian Federation abroad as illegal acts. Of course, any claim that they (the US representatives – AG) managed to find a legal justification for the continuation of this anarchy is absolute legal nonsense.
In any case, they will give rise, in one way or another, to judicial proceedings.
– Is Moscow planning any retaliatory measures?
“Not a single case of illegal detention will go unattended,” confides the spokesperson. – Each case, of course, is personal, has its own characteristics and it is necessary to understand the details of each case.
But all this will be the consequence of quite serious judicial proceedings and we will not leave it at that. You are aware that in some cases legal proceedings have already been initiated regarding the retention of funds and other assets.
Some of our entrepreneurs have already achieved success in different European countries. Including appealing illegal investigative actions against you, conducting illegal searches, etc.
In some countries, these “detention measures” against our businessmen have already been declared illegal by the European courts themselves. And this work will continue both through our entrepreneurs and through the State.
The Kremlin official also added:
– It is clear that now we, as the Russian state and our businessmen, often violate the right to defend their interests in foreign courts.
In general, this is difficult to understand; Of course, it contradicts everything that can only be imagined from the point of view of the international and national law of those States.
But as soon as that opportunity presents itself, we will of course defend our rights.
