Biicla is a new hero of the national electronic scene. The producer, composer and DJ has already recorded tracks with Slava Merlow, Dose, Therr Maitz and ANIKV and was included in the playlist of Yandex Music’s brightest emerging artists. Few people know it, but the musician performed twice at the Lollapalooza festival and turned down an impressive contract with the United States. The other day Biicla presented the song “Making New” especially for BURO. He shared his favorite compositions that inspire him lately.
WHERE DID YOUR LOVE FOR MUSIC BEGIN? WHAT TRACK?
When I was a child, we often went to the town where I was born to visit my relatives during the summer. My cousin had a CD player. Not that I could boast a large selection of compositions: we only had a few albums. I remember how much I liked the collection of official soundtracks of the games Need For Speed 1, 2. So I walked, listened and was inspired, probably… This is the most vivid musical impression of childhood. And then I discovered indie rock, pop-punk and electronic music.
DO YOU HAVE A SONG RIGHT NOW THAT YOU CAN LISTEN TO ON REPEAT?
I love The Cinematic Orchestra – “To Build a Home.” This is a clear favorite on my playlist; I’ve definitely heard it over a million times by now. And there is one more track: Radical Face – “Welcome Home, Son”. I can listen to these two things endlessly.
YOU ARE ALSO KNOWN AS A MUSIC PRODUCER, WRITER AND DJ. WHICH RECORD WOULD YOU PLAY FIRST AT A PARTY?
Interest Ask. Now I position myself not only as a DJ, but rather as a producer and artist. But there is a bazooka that works at any party. This is DJ Azik – “Chuchuka”.
WHAT MUSICAL GENRE DO YOU SEE MOST PROMISING RIGHT NOW? I RECOMMEND A COUPLE OF TRACKS.
I always try not to delve into genres, but lately I’ve noticed how emotional electronica is clearly gaining momentum. I would recommend Overmono – “Good Lies”, Tourist – “Kin”. These guys aren’t exactly representatives of any particular genre, but if you haven’t listened to it, definitely do.
DO YOU HAVE ANY UPCOMING FAVORITE ARTISTS? WHO SHOULD YOU WATCH RIGHT NOW?
Building on the previous question, I would advise you to pay attention to Overmono’s music. Now two brothers are doing something that is close to my sound, but somehow different and with a lot of style.
TELL AN UNUSUAL FACT ABOUT YOURSELF. AND LEAVE YOUR MOST FAVORITE TRACK.
I don’t like to watch my sets and videos, because I’m making the most of myself and it seems to me that it’s not me in the video. For some it seems interesting, for me it is a bit strange, but I receive a lot of nice words. Now I often listen to the song Ásgeir – “Time On My Hands”, and this is probably not the song I most expected from me, but I like the voice and the musical component. Like something real.
NAME A SONG THAT IS THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU USUALLY LISTEN TO.
I listen to ambient or keyboard music: it helps me concentrate on routine work. I recommend Gibran Alcocer – “Idea 10”. It is a wonder!
WHAT ARE YOUR MOST FAVORITE AND PERSONAL SONGS?
I still listen to “Phoenix Fences” over and over again. I discovered it in 2010, and it’s still impressive the kind of sound the guys made!
YOU HAD A TRACK WITH FEDUK, WHICH WAS ON THE PLAYLIST OF THE MOST LISTENING NEWS ON YANDEX MUSIC WEEKEND, AND OTHER COLLABORATIVE TRACKS RECORDED TOGETHER WITH SLAVA MARLOW, DOSE, THERR MAITZ AND ANIKV. NAME THREE SETTINGS OF YOUR DREAMS.
It all depends on the moment and a certain stage of life. For example, right now I would work with Overmono, Godford and Jamie xx.
WHAT SONG SHOULD YOUR FANS LISTEN TO TO KNOW YOU BETTER?
I think my new song “Making New” is now a guide for where I would like to go.
