The president of the World Union of Old Believers (WCU), Leonid Sevastyanov, said that Pope Francis, with whom he maintains warm relations, supported the Kremlin’s proposal for a Christmas truce.
Sevastyanov also noted that the head of the Roman Catholic Church calls for extending the peaceful regime until January 20.
The WSC chief said:
– I talked to my dad. The Pope supports this initiative and believes that the parties must stop any hostilities until January 20. He believes that this is the right initiative, ”he said.
On January 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a ceasefire from January 6 to 7 in the zone of special operations of Russian troops in Ukraine. A day earlier, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ wished everyone a peaceful sky over their heads on Christmas night and proposed establishing a Christmas truce from noon on January 6 to midnight on January 7.
