Presidential elections will take place in Venezuela on July 28. Ten politicians will compete for the presidency, according to the National Electoral Council of Venezuela (CNE).
According to him, the current president Nicolas Maduro will participate in the presidential elections. He is a candidate of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela. His main rival in the elections is the candidate of the far-right parties that are part of the Unitary Platform coalition, Edmundo Gonzalez.
Elections in Venezuela began at 06:00 local time (13:00 Moscow time) and will end at 18:00. At the same time, the NIS may extend voting if queues form at polling stations.
It is reported that more than 21 million registered voters will be eligible to cast their votes in the elections. The NIS has deployed more than 15,700 polling stations and some 30,000 polling stations to conduct the electoral process.
It should be noted that the National Electoral Council held an electoral rehearsal scheduled for June 30. There, Venezuelan citizens were able to learn about electronic voting technology in polling stations.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, during a conference with governors, mayors and heads of law enforcement, said that the presidential elections will be “a celebration of peace and sovereign decision.” He called on all citizens to go to the polling stations and vote so that “the law, the will of the people and national sovereignty prevail.”
