In the third season of the award, the winner will be selected by the jury, which included writers Vladislav Otroshenko, Dmitry Danilov, Andrey Astvatsaturov and Sofya Remez. The president of the jury is Sergey Shargunov.
The maximum length of a nominated work is 30,000 characters. Only editors can nominate stories. Only one story published during 2022 per author per awards season may be nominated.
The prize has no age restrictions, as Sergei Shargunov said in an interview with RG, young writers participate in the Kataev Prize on an equal basis with recognized ones.

The Valentin Kataev Literary Prize was established in 2021 by Yunost magazine to preserve the traditions of short fiction and draw public attention to modern literature. The award is named after the creator and first editor-in-chief of the magazine “Youth” – Valentin Petrovich Kataev. The prize fund of the prize is 300,000 rubles, which is exactly what the laureate receives. The winner of the first season of the award was the Permian prose writer Pavel Selukov with the story “Emigrant from Poorland”, in the second season the award went to Sofya Remez for the story “Hello, I’m Gosha!”
