The President of Russia approved amendments to the law “On Military Duty and Military Service.” They will enter into force on January 1, 2024.
What is the point of innovation?
First of all, the age limit for being in the reserve for citizens with the rank of soldiers, sailors, sergeants, foremen, non-commissioned officers and midshipmen is increased by 5 years.
For the same 5 years, the age limit for the reserve’s stay in the mobilization reserve was also increased: for senior officers (from major to colonel) – up to 65 years, for junior officers (from lieutenant to captain) – up to 60 years. For those with senior officer rank (generals and admirals), the age limit has not changed, up to 70 years.
How are reserves different from reservists?
There are two types of reservations in Russia. The first is general, about 25 million people. This number includes citizens who are fit (or fit with restrictions) in health for military service and have not reached the age limit. And the second is the so-called ready reserve.
The main difference is that the latter additionally conclude a contract with the Ministry of Defense and receive regular training. The reservist has the opportunity to combine primary civilian work with military training. During such periods, the state compensates the company where the reservist works, the average earnings of him.
The novelties approved by the president refer only to the age of the warehouses.

And those discharged from military service are enrolled in the reserve, including those who served in the urgent and alternative service, those who completed their studies in military departments, those who received exemption from compulsory military service or a deferral of up to 27 years, women with military specialties. They are simply registered with the military registration and enlistment office until they reach the age limit.
On what basis are they divided into categories?
All stores are divided into categories according to age, state of health and military specialty (registered in each military ID). The innovations approved by the president refer only to age. According to this criterion, warehouses are divided into 3 categories.
The age of the 1st category is increased from 35 to 40 years.
The second category – from 45 to 50 years.
The third category – from 50 to 55 years.
Why was the reserve created?
The main objective is the possibility of a prompt replenishment of the Armed Forces with trained specialists in the event of a military threat, partial or total mobilization.
What are the terms of the contract now?
The first contract with the Ministry of Defense to remain in reserve is for 3 years. So it can be extended. For continuous stay in the reserve at the monthly salary, a subsidy is paid:
• from 3 to 5 years – 10%;
• from 5 to 10 years – 20%;
• from 10 to 15 years — 30%;
• from 15 to 20 years – 40%;
• from 20 years and more — 50%.
A reservist’s allowance accrues based on rank and position, by being in the reserve, and separately for each day of training sessions and annual military training. The “weld” is not fragile: a company commander with the rank of major can receive more than 90 thousand rubles, a platoon commander with the rank of senior lieutenant – 85 thousand, deputy. squad leader with the rank of sergeant – 55 thousand, machine gunner with the rank of private – 46 thousand.
And what will be the procedure for the transition of the reserve to retirees?
According to the updated law, from January 1, 2024 to January 1, 2028, there will be a period where shopkeepers will retire in stages. In 2024, citizens who turn 50 will remain on the reserve until the age of 51, in 2025 – up to 52 years. Well, etc. Until the expiration of “launched” them 5 years.
