Renfe already has a date to take its trains to France and puts tickets on sale for €9

Date: June 25, 2024 Time: 15:43:25

Renfe completes a new milestone in its internationalization plan and already has a date for its trains to be present in France. It will do so with two routes that it formerly operated in collaboration with SNCF, the French state operator that broke the joint-venture set up by both parties to manage the routes between the two countries.

The first of these two routes is the one that will link Barcelona and Lyon, which will start its high-speed services on its own on July 13. The second will begin its commercial operations on July 28 with trains between Marseille, Barcelona and Madrid, thus recovering the two previously established relationships. In total, it will offer 9,700 weekly seats to travel between the two countries.

These services will link Barcelona, Girona and Figueres Vilafant with Lyon and, on the other hand, Madrid, Zaragoza, Camp de Tarragona, Barcelona, Girona and Figueres Vilafant with Marseille, with several stops in French territory such as Narbonne, Montpellier, Nimes , Avignon or Aix-en-Provence.

The arrival of Renfe in France will be accompanied by a promotional offer to realize it in the country. It will be possible to travel between Madrid and Marseille for 29 euros, between Barcelona and Lyon for 19 euros and with special prices of 9 euros for those routes that will link the French cities. The president of the company, Raül Blanco, has announced the date on which the tickets for these new services will go on sale, which can be purchased from this Wednesday, June 21.

“France is a natural market, a firm commitment. Our will to operate there is permanent and to become a benchmark operator,” said Blanco, who also described today as “historic” for Renfe and for the entire rail sector national: “This trip between Barcelona and Lyon will be the first time that a Spanish train driver enters French territory” on a commercial trip.

Next stop: Paris

The president of the company has also revealed the next milestone to be met, which involves taking its trains to Paris before the 2024 Olympic Games take place, which will be held next summer in the French capital. “We have the dream of taking the Spanish athletes on a Renfe train,” he confessed, although he admits that “some elements” are still missing, such as the safety certificate to operate on the high-speed line that goes further north from Lyon.
