Barcelona and Paris will be connected by high-speed train before the end of 2023 pais halo. After the end of the cooperation between the railway operators of both countries, the French administration had blocked the presence of Spanish trains on its tracks alleging technical incompatibilities.
Renfe guarantees this week that it will once again offer the Barcelona-Lyon and Madrid-Marseille trains before this summer, after starting the necessary tests to obtain the approval of its drivers. Added to this is the commitment of the French minister Clément Beaune, in charge of the transport area, that Renfe will be able to operate services between Lyon and Paris before the end of the year.
The French Government has also conveyed the commitment to accelerate the updating of the Montpellier-Perpignan section, which belongs to the Mediterranean Corridor, and finish it before the year 2030. This work will shorten travel times, which today exceed six hours of travel between Barcelona and Paris. Also from 2024 the Great Southwest Project will be accelerated, which includes the Bordeaux-Toulouse and Bordeaux-Spanish Border (Hendaye) connections of the Atlantic Corridor, opening a second exit to France through the Basque Country.
