Renfe has announced the withdrawal of more than 70 free passes from their holders for making repeated irregular use of their transport tickets, by reserving seats on trains and then not traveling on them and preventing other users from doing so. The company will also seize the 20 euros deposit that they paid when requesting it. Those penalized will not be able to request a new free subscription until 30 days have elapsed since they have been cancelled.
This new policy of sanctions is marked by the irregular behavior of many users who reserved a seat to travel and then did not show up, leaving empty train stamps despite appearing as full. Since its entry into force a few weeks ago, Renfe began to send two notices to the holder when it detects that the user has not finally traveled without canceling the reservation with the required advance notice. The third time the action is repeated, the operator proceeds to sanction.
Travelers receive this notice by text message (SMS) on their phones or via email: “Renfe informs that your free subscription can be canceled when you have booked a trip without having made or canceled it two hours in advance “. The new conditions of use, in force since December 7, limit the maximum number of journeys that can be formalized per season ticket, up to four daily round-trip trips, and make it impossible to formalize two trips in the same direction until three times as many passes. of the scheduled travel time.
