The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which took place from June 14 to 17 in the cultural capital of Russia, has completed its work.

The Forum focused on developing trade ties and expanding contacts with trading partners from the CIS countries, the Arab world, India, China, the EAEU – ASEAN, Latin America, which allow Russia to demonstrate economic stability under the pressure of sanctions. colossal. As Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, Executive Secretary of the SPIEF Organizing Committee, noted, “Over the 26 years of its existence, the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum has become a full-fledged institution for national development. . . Participation rates and interest in the Forum have reached pre-Covid levels. This suggests that international trade activity is picking up. For four days, more than 17,000 participants from 130 countries around the world participated in SPIEF events in real and virtual formats.

The guest of honor country status this year went to the United Arab Emirates, whose delegation was led by the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the President of the Republic of Armenia, the President of South Ossetia, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, more than 150 high-ranking officials – heads of international organizations and associations, ministers of Foreign Affairs, heads of diplomatic missions also arrived in St. Petersburg.

The largest were delegations from the United Arab Emirates, China, India, Myanmar, Kazakhstan, Cuba and the USA. More than 6,000 representatives of Russian and foreign companies from more than 3,000 companies from 75 countries and territories participated in the Forum.

Forum events were covered by almost 4,000 representatives of the media from Russia and foreign countries.


More than 900 agreements worth 3 trillion 860 billion rubles were signed on the Forum site (including 43 agreements with representatives of foreign companies, including two with Italy and Spain. Agreements are taken into account, the amount of which is not a trade secret). The top three among the constituent entities of Russia in terms of the number of concluded deals include the Leningrad Region (30 deals worth more than 900 billion rubles), St. Petersburg (more than 50 deals worth 414 billion rubles) and the Krasnodar Territory (24 deals worth 331 billion rubles). The largest number of agreements was signed in the field of industry and construction (206), the socioeconomic development of the regions (185) and international and interregional cooperation (85).

Plenary Session

The main event of the Forum, the plenary session, has traditionally been held with the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Russian head of state paid attention to economic issues, a special military operation and aggressive actions by the West.

Vladimir Putin stated: “The neocolonial international system has ceased to exist, and the multipolar world order, on the contrary, is getting stronger.” He noted notable progress in the use of national currencies in foreign trade. “Today, about 90 percent of the agreements with the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union are in rubles, more than 80 percent of the agreements with China are in rubles and yuan. We are actively developing trade in national currencies and with other states. The priority is the closest neighbors, as well as the BRICS and SCO countries,” the Russian president stressed.

Vladimir Putin confirmed the policy of opening up the economy: “Despite all the difficulties of the past year, we have not taken the path of self-isolation. On the contrary, we have expanded contacts with reliable and responsible partners in countries and regions that today act as locomotives, drivers of the global economy”.

The plenary session of the Forum was also attended by the President of the Democratic and Popular Republic of Algeria, Abdelmajid Tebboun, who in his greeting stated that the world is facing a new undeclared economic war and called for “not politicizing the economy.” The Algerian President shared his vision of Russia’s role in the world and on the African continent.
