The Polish holding AmRest transferred its 215 restaurants to the Russian company Smart Service. They worked under the KFC brand. Now the name familiar to many since the 1990s, Rostic’s, will be back in use. Unlike other similar transactions, in this case the amount was disclosed. It amounted to 100 million euros.
The buyers were businessmen from Udmurtia – Konstantin Kotov and Andrey Oskolkov. Like the owner of Tasty and Points, they were franchisees. That is, at one point they bought the right to use the brand. And they opened 40 KFC restaurants in Udmurtia, the Kirov region, Tatarstan and the Perm region. Now they will develop more than 300 points (before that, 70 KFC restaurants were under their control, from another foreign owner).
In total, there are about a thousand establishments in Russia that offer fried chicken from a Kentucky grandfather (KFC stands for Kentucky Fried Chicken). In the coming months, all of them will gradually change the brand to Rostic’s. The first restaurant under a new name was opened on April 25 in Moscow, near the Mayakovskaya metro station. This is the same historical place as the premises of the former McDonald’s on Pushkinskaya. It was in Mayakovka that the flagship establishment of the old Rostik was always located.
The foreign owner of the KFC brand did not impose any special restrictions. It is impossible except to use the name “Twister” and “Boxmaster”. But the customers will probably survive.
– All recipes from our menu are saved. The technology and the dishes we prepare completely repeat the KFC menu. And this is a huge plus,” said Konstantin Kotov, co-owner of the Smart Service group of companies.
All restaurants will continue to operate. The new owners are not laying off anyone. The business is established. And in a crisis, it is fast food in the catering field that feels best. As for prices, at the first stage, the owners will definitely not change them. And then everything will be decided by competition. Even with “Tasty and point” and BurgerKing, they still aren’t going to change names.
BY THE WAY
“Absolutely” without Ararat
The owner of many brands of alcoholic beverages, the French Pernod Ricard, has stopped deliveries of products to Russia since the end of April 2023. This is stated in an official statement on the company’s official website. Let’s remember that the company owns the brands Absolut, Chivas Regal, Jameson, Ballantine’s, Ararat, Martell, Olmeca, Havana Club and others.
As reported by the company, operations will be restricted in the coming months. During this time, the stores will sell the rest of the products. These goods were not yet on the list of goods for parallel import. But this is a matter of technology. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce supplements the list from time to time. So we definitely won’t run out of tequila and whiskey.
