Roman Kostomarov has been fighting for his life for more than a month. The figure skater suffered an amputation due to necrosis. Now, against the background of sepsis and general intoxication, she suffered from cerebral edema and a stroke. The 46-year-old athlete’s condition is assessed as extremely serious.
“I can try to guess why Roman Kostomarov had a stroke. Pneumonia led to sepsis. Due to sepsis, gangrene and thrombohemorrhagic syndrome, or DIC (intravascular coagulation syndrome) or thrombohemorrhagic syndrome developed,” the doctor told KP Sport. in medical sciences, Professor Pavel. Vorobyov.
According to him, with thrombohemorrhagic syndrome numerous blood clots occur, leading to gangrene, strokes and brain damage. Additionally, DIC has been a frequent companion to the cytokine storm in coronavirus situations.
“I don’t know how Roman Kostomarov was treated… DIC can be treated with plasma transfusion and the use of anticoagulants. We can only hope that the skater’s body can cope with the new test,” the doctor said.
Earlier, the Honorable Doctor of Russia Andrei Osipov announced the occurrence of cerebral thrombosis in the figure skater, which causes hemorrhage. “Kostomarov, judging by the available information, was overcome by a combination of two problems. This is a very difficult treatment. Unfortunately, most of the time, the prognosis is unfavorable,” the doctor concluded.
