According to data on targeted monitoring of the population’s diet, 62.6% of Russian residents aged 19 and over will be overweight in 2023, compared with 61.7% in 2018, RIA Novosti reports.
Over the past five years, the number of people with pre-obesity has increased from 40.1% to 43.9%. At the same time, the number of citizens with first-degree obesity decreased from 15.7% to 14%, second-degree obesity from 4.3% to 3.6%, and third-degree obesity from 1.6% to 1.1%.
It is noted that men are more likely to face obesity problems. Among them, the number of people with normal weight decreased from 34% to 30.9%, and the proportion of obese people increased from 46.9% to 52.4%.
The proportion of women with normal weight over five years increased from 38.1% to 39.4%. The number of obese people also increased from 34.7% to 37.1%.
Earlier, Rospotrebnadzor head Anna Popova said that almost 80% of Russians want to follow the principles of healthy eating, while at the start of the national project “Demography” only 39% of the population wanted to eat well. She also noted that our country is currently experiencing a positive trend in reducing obesity, primarily among primary school students.
