Rueda repeats the Feijoo government, with the only difference being that one of the barons discussed the succession model.

Diego Calvo’s novelty, tourism powers directly under the President and some changes in the names of the ministries, but no changes in the powers: Alfonso Rueda refuses to create his own profile when electing his cabinet and confirms the message of succession to his predecessor as President of Xunta, Alberto Nunez Feihoo. He repeats all the names of his team in the same positions and introduces the novelty of the provincial president of the PP in A Coruña, one of the barons who discussed the replacement process. The number of members also does not change; a man leaves (feijoo) and another enters (calvo). There are 12 of them: a president, two vice presidents and nine advisers. In terms of parity: five women and seven men.

Rueda signed a decree this Sunday that sets out the structure of his cabinet after taking office on Saturday. Tomorrow the document will be published in the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG) and the new Junta Council will hold its first meeting.

In the new organizational structure, the second vice president and head of economic and industrial policy of Galicia, Francisco Conde, has moved up a notch to become first vice president, but with the same functions. The Second Vice President is reserved for Diego Calvo along with the Department of the President, Justice and Sports. In other words, Calvo will manage the affairs that until now depended on Rueda, with one change: the new president leaves the tourism sector under his direct tutelage and separates the sports area, which goes to the second vice president. In a statement, Xunta justifies this decision as “a model of the priority” given to tourism promotion in the context of Xacobeo.

The remaining departments only register changes in the name, but the distribution of competencies will continue as before. Miguel Korgos, who replaced Valeriano Martinez, who died suddenly, at the end of 2021, will lead the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration. Environment, territory and housing will continue to be managed by Ángeles Vázquez; Infrastructure and Mobility, Ethel Vasquez; and “Culture, Education, Vocational Training and Universities” by Roman Rodriguez.

Julio García Comesagna remains Minister of Health and Fabiola García remains in charge of social policy and youth. María Jesús Lorenzana, promoter of employment and equality, will continue her leadership; while José González and de Mar will continue to handle rural affairs, Rosa Quintana, the only one along with Rueda, has been in Sunta since Feijoo won its first regional elections in 2009.

Other appointments are expected at the next levels of government, such as replacements for the team that Feijoo took with him to Madrid, in which Secretary General for Media Mar Sánchez Sierra or former President’s Cabinet Chief Marta Varela.

For his part, Alfonso Rueda, after receiving assistance in Xunta, is ahead of the extraordinary congress of the Galician PP, which will be held on May 21 and 22 in Pontevedra. There, without opponents, he will succeed Feijoo and at the head of the internal life of the party in Galicia after an agreement with the provincial officials.
