More than a week of ratcheting up diplomatic tensions saw Moscow and Washington nearing an all-out rupture this week. Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Ryabkov said that the relationship remains strong, and ending it isn’t probable.
“In spite of all this, we do not intend to enter into any conflict or confrontation with the United States,” the Russian foreign minister said. In fact, he’s been negotiating with the U.S. over Syria.
The American side does not express any intention to reach a break with the diplomat because this would be difficult for him to do so.
