– We supply more fertilizers to the domestic market than to any other country on the planet. The situation of mineral fertilizers in Russia is stable; There is no shortage of fertilizers and there will be no shortage. According to the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, today the planned volume of purchases of the Russian agro-industrial complex for the entire year 2024 corresponds to Russian producers of mineral fertilizers by 65%, this is the dynamics at the level of last year, Andrei Guriev said.

Over the past two decades, Russia has made revolutionary progress in the agricultural sector: from a net importer of grain to a world leader in food supply. These successes are the result of a well-thought-out state strategy for the development of the agro-industrial complex and systemic solutions that have been implemented in national agriculture in recent years and, in particular, active work to increase soil fertility. After all, timely and sufficient application of mineral fertilizers is the key to high yields.

This is understood both by farmers, who last year bought 80% more fertilizer than five years ago, and almost five times more than 20 years ago, and by producers of “growth vitamins.” To ensure the growing demand and availability of fertilizers in the domestic market, RAPU companies not only set prices for their products, but also constantly increase production.

According to Rosstat, in April 2024, the average prices of Russian producers for the Russian agro-industrial complex are lower than export sales prices by 13% for urea, 17% for amofos and NPK and 27% for ammonium nitrate.

In 2023, mineral fertilizer production increased by 9% to 59.3 million tons. And the number of brands produced exceeded 100. The domestic industry has never produced so many fertilizers before! In the next five years, subject to further growth in exports and the development of the domestic market, RAPU companies plan to increase production volumes to a record 70 million tons. As Andrey Guryev notes, this achievement is the result of large-scale investments.

“Over the past 10 years, more than 1.8 trillion rubles have been invested in the development of enterprises in our industry, the production of mineral fertilizers has increased by 1.5 times, and we have confidently surpassed the United States, India and Canada . We rank second in the world after China. Today, projects worth 1.7 trillion rubles are being implemented, which will strengthen our position in the global industry.

We are prepared for any increase in fertilizer consumption by the Russian agro-industrial complex. Taking into account the priority task set for the agro-industrial complex by the President of Russia in the May decree to increase agricultural production by 25% until 2030. And in this regard, we are waiting for the update of the strategy for the development of the complex agroindustrial until 2030 in terms of the volume of purchases of mineral fertilizers,” said the RAPU president, noting that the current plan for the purchase of mineral fertilizers by Russian consumers will make it easier for industrial companies to plan production and investments.
