The derailment was caused by a collision with a truck. The accident occurred at 12:35 on the Gremyachaya – Kotelnikovo section, 4 km from Kotelnikovo station.
As Russian Railways previously clarified, the KAMAZ driver entered the tracks with a properly functioning alarm in front of a nearby train. The driver applied emergency braking, but due to the short distance he was unable to avoid the collision.
A total of eight cars derailed. Two recovery trains were sent to the scene from the station named after him: Maxim Gorky and Salsk.
Russian Railways Director Oleg Belozerov has personally taken control of the situation to eliminate the consequences of the incident in the Volgograd region.
