Sachs called NATO summit statement a lack of interest in peace in Ukraine – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Date: July 18, 2024 Time: 10:41:06

“This,” according to Sachs, “emphasizes the irreversibility of Ukraine’s entry into NATO, which will never happen due to Russia’s opposition.”

The economist believes that such a situation is “imprudent and unnecessarily prolongs the current conflict.”

The analyst also claimed that the document wrongly places all blame solely on Russia, “completely ignoring the 2014 coup in Ukraine, the failure of the Minsk agreements, as well as NATO expansion.” The statement “is a crude neoconservative reassertion of US hegemony,” as the document demands that NATO maintain a “rules-based order,” which is actually a US-founded order that directly contradicts the UN Charter.

And finally, the statement “declares NATO to be a defensive force, even though the alliance has repeatedly engaged in offensive regime-change operations, including in Afghanistan, Iraq, Serbia, Libya, Ukraine and elsewhere.”
