The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, defended this Tuesday that Spain attracted foreign investment projects worth 30,000 million euros in 2022, a “historic record”, which shows, in his opinion, that the Government’s measures “It’s already paying off.” Sánchez, who has taken part in the ‘Country Strategy Dialogue’, within the framework of the World Economic Forum in Davos, a space for dialogue behind closed doors between presidents and leaders and executives of large companies, has presented the strategic lines of economic growth in Spain and the reform plan approved by the Government.
The head of the Executive has registered that Spain has become a “focus of interest” for investors, since Spain received “record” foreign direct investment (FDI) figures in 2022. In addition, he has indicated that the largest multinationals in the world are already investing in emblematic projects in Spain, in areas as varied as gigafactories, data centers, hydrogen or cybersecurity.
Before a group of CEOs and other senior business officials, the President of the Government has addressed different aspects of the Spanish economy and in relation to the macroeconomic perspectives, Sánchez has registered the five packages of measures approved by the Government throughout 2022 to protect households, SMEs and specific sectors from the impact of the war in Ukraine.
Growth above 5% in 2022
In this regard, the President of the Government has reiterated that economic performance in Spain has been boosted by these measures, and has stressed that growth in 2022 exceeded 5%, and has recorded that last December the inflation rate in Spain (5.5%) it was “the lowest in the entire EU”.

Likewise, the President of the Government has indicated that most of the forecasts of the main international organizations agree that growth in Spain will exceed the average rates of advanced economies in 2023, and inflation will drop to 2 below that of the euro area. . With regard to the ecological transition, the president highlighted the fact that Spain is recognized today as a “global leader” in this area, after having turned the green agenda into one of the main pillars of government policies. Thus, he has highlighted that Spain is the fifth country in the world in wind energy and the eighth in the generation of renewable energy and aspires to become “leader in green hydrogen generation”.
Finally, the head of the Executive has addressed the use of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, highlighting that Spain was, in 2021, the first country to receive approval of its Plan, which amounted to 70,000 million euros. In addition, he has stressed that Spain is the “most advanced” country in the implementation and execution of European funds.
Pedro Sánchez has valued the more than 190 approved projects and has registered that 150,000 Spanish companies are already receiving funds. In this sense, he has also addressed the 12 Pertes in strategic areas such as renewable energy, microchips, agribusiness or advanced medicine, among others.
