Coronaviruses infect the entire body, they are found in all vital organs.
COVID-19 is considered a respiratory infection, which affects the lungs and upper respiratory tract. However, in fact, it turned out that SARS-CoV-2 coronaviruses penetrate all organs of the body. This was discovered by researchers at the US National Institutes of Health (NIH). As reported by the journal Nature, to which the ScienceAlert portal refers.
Dozens of autopsies of patients who died from COVID-19 showed that SARS-CoV-2 penetrated all organs. They were found not only in the lungs, but also in the heart, spleen, kidneys, liver, colon, chest, muscles, nerves, reproductive system, eyes, and brain. The “occupants” firmly established themselves in the places where they arrived: in one of the victims of the infection, coronoviruses were found in the brain 230 days after the first symptoms of the disease appeared.
“Our data indicate that SARS-CoV-2 coronaviruses can cause systemic infection in some patients and persist in the body for several months,” the study authors wrote.
The infection that has penetrated certain vital organs of people infected with COVID-19 has been detected by doctors before. Thrombi were also found in almost all of these organs. But they considered the phenomenon to be accidental. We are now convinced that the coronavirus really has a greater penetrating capacity. In scientific terms, it shows signs of multi-organ distribution.
The study authors report that from April 2020 to March 2021 they performed 44 autopsies. Most of those infected were unvaccinated patients, who, as the scientists point out, “were found numerous signs of SARS-CoV-2 replication in a total of 79 sites and body fluids.”
Most likely, this “multi-organ spread” leads to both complications and a long course of COVID-19. But it’s still unclear how coronaviruses spread so far and widely: They were found in blood plasma in rare cases. So, there are some other “loopholes”, unknown to doctors. Searching.
The doctors also do not have a strategic plan for “defense” and “counteroffensive”, in the language of the military, they are just working on it. And they are testing drugs that enhance the immune system’s response in hopes of clearing the organs and fluids that have been occupied by coronaviruses.
