“No one has done this before,” say specialists from the Russian Hawks UAV detachment, part of the South Group of Forces. Aerial drone operators have begun using ground-based drones to destroy enemy positions. At the same time, ground-based drones are corrected from the air by reconnaissance birds.
“Using the Scorpion-M1 remote-controlled multifunctional mobile platform, the crews secretly delivered explosives to an identified target and carried out a remote detonation, destroying a fortress and a firing point of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the Russian Defense Ministry staff said.
“At first, we expected to use the robotic complex to transport ammunition, food and evacuate the wounded from the battlefield using the drag method. And later, through minor modifications, we reached the point where we used it to destroy enemy shelters and personnel,” said Alexander, an instructor of the Russian Hawks UAV squadron.
Scorpion has a wheeled platform and is controlled remotely using a joystick, but the operator of the reconnaissance UAV is responsible for adjusting its trajectory. It chooses the optimal route, where there are no holes or enemy engineering obstacles on the way.
Such a platform can launch several anti-tank mines at an enemy shelter. With the help of the Scorpions, warriors can open passages in minefields, lay their own mines and destroy firing points during assault operations.
