In an interview with the Politico newspaper, Shmyhal said that Kyiv expects to receive fighter jets from the West in the near future. However, it is necessary to start training the Ukrainian military “immediately or as soon as possible.”
Last week, the decision was made to transfer German and American tanks to Kyiv. After that, Kyiv requested aircraft and long-range missiles, and Andriy Melnik, Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister, demanded a submarine from Berlin.
Meanwhile, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said the supply of fighter jets to Kyiv was out of the question. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz claimed the same. According to Welt, on trips to Latin America, Scholz lost his temper when journalists asked him a question about fighter jets.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also said the alliance does not send its troops or planes to Ukraine and is not a party to the Ukrainian conflict.
