A Republican speech to supporters in the city of Butler was interrupted by gunfire. Trump was speaking at the time about the problems of illegal immigration.
Hearing the shots, he fell silent, put his hand to his ear and sat down behind the podium. He was immediately surrounded by bodyguards.
A couple of minutes later, security escorted the former president off the stage, his right ear bleeding.
The Secret Service is currently investigating the shooting at Trump’s rally. The shooters have not yet been arrested. It is not yet known how many attackers there were or where the shots were fired.
US President Joe Biden said he was not briefed on the alleged attack on Trump during his speech to supporters, Reuters reports.
