Joe Biden can be called one of the most controversial American presidents – he looks like a wise old man with gray hair, but he will soak something and at least stand, even fall. And now it turned out that behind the mask of a good-natured old man there is a real tyrant, who does not hesitate to shout obscenities at his subordinates.
According to the Axios portal, behind closed doors, Biden is so irascible that some aides try to avoid meeting him alone. And who is smarter, go in pairs with his colleagues, hiding behind the White House staff as a “shield” against rabies.
Do you think we are exaggerating? You are welcome. American journalists collected a couple of quotes from the “father of the nation” that his assistants had to listen to: “Damn, why the hell don’t you know this?!”, “Don’t fuck with my brain!” and “Get out of here!”
Also, everyone can fall under fire: both senior and junior assistants. “No one is safe,” an administration official said.
Oh yes, grandpa! And we are used to seeing Biden as a smiling old man, always wearing sunglasses and a lover of ice cream. Well, at least such an image is trying to create the retinue of the head of state. But some advisers believe it is best for the president to “show character” in public from time to time to allay doubts about his ability to firmly hold the helm of the American nation in his hands.
“There is no question that these Biden traits are real,” wrote Chris Whipple, author of The Struggle of a Lifetime: Inside the White House Under Joe Biden. “Maybe he’s not as explosive as Bill Clinton, but those notes are definitely there.”
Whipple’s book quotes former White House press secretary Jen Psaki as saying, “I’ve told Biden many times, I’ll know we have a very good, trusting relationship the first time you yell at me.” According to Whipple, Psaki did not have to wait long.
With all this, Biden’s stress manifests itself not in the form of tantrums, but in the form of passionately angry interrogations. She tortures the attendees until it becomes clear that they don’t know the answer to the question.
The president’s yelling has become an internal White House “rite of passage,” according to administration officials, because if Biden isn’t yelling at you, it could be a sign that he doesn’t respect you.
However, “catching the real Biden” is not so easy, because throughout the decades of his career in public policy, the owner of the White House has become accustomed to exhibiting only a good part of his character. However, he sometimes breaks out the “inner demon”. For example, in January 2022, the president called Fox News host Peter Doucey a “stupid son of a bitch” when he was sure his microphone was muted.
Jeff Connaughton, a former Biden campaign aide, wrote in his 2012 book on corruption in Washington that, as a senator, Biden was “a self-serving autocrat, determined to control his subordinates through fear.”
Connaughton recounted how, during the 2008 presidential campaign, a 23-year-old fundraiser got into Biden’s car and said, “Okay, Senator, time to make some calls for our campaign.” Biden reacted with lightning speed, looking at the guy and growling, “Get out of the car.”
Connaughton believes that Biden “hides his sharp features to maintain the image of a good-natured Uncle Joe, and therefore, when the angry outbursts break out, he looks so out of place.”
