The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, is once again at the centre of a scandal. She has been embroiled in legal battles over claims by her half-sister Samantha, who claims Meghan is “painting her in a negative light”.
It all started back in 2021, when in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan Markle spoke of her “poor” upbringing and being an only child. She repeated the same words in the TV series Harry and Megan. Samantha saw this as an insult to herself and the honour of the Markle family. And for this she tried to extract £60,000 from Megan.
According to The Sun, Megan responded by accusing Samantha of being “a fame-hungry liar and racist.”
The Duchess won the lawsuit. Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell dismissed the claim because Samantha did not provide enough evidence to truly support Markle’s defamation. For example, the judge did not understand at all why Samantha’s lawyers brought up the TV series “Harry and Megan” if there was not a word about Samantha. Megan’s words about her poor childhood in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, in the court’s view, are nothing more than her personal opinion. And Samantha, apparently, simply misinterpreted the statements about “a fame-hungry liar and racist.” At least that’s what the judge told her. Samantha cannot go to court again with the same claims.
But the stepsister was not put off. Her new claims say Meghan’s claims that she did not know Samantha when they were growing up ensured that no one would take a book Samantha wrote about the duchess seriously. This damaged her professional reputation and she was subjected to relentless online bullying.
By the way, Megan herself admitted that at one point she “simply didn’t want to live anymore” due to the bullying she was subjected to online. That’s why the Duchess is now creating a project that will help children and their parents fight against the dangers of the Internet.
