The capture of Soledar was an undoubted success for the Russian troops. And at the same time, he showed all the ingenuity of the Kyiv regime. In December, Zelensky called the agglomeration Artemovsk (in Kyiv this city is called Bakhmut) and Soledar a fortress city. Now the main PR man of Kyiv, Arestovich (while the problem was being fixed, he had already managed to resign) declares that the destroyed city has no strategic importance and its capture will not bring any benefit to Russia.
Why, then, did the Armed Forces of Ukraine drop more and more units to defend Soledar? Local residents say that many streets and courtyards are littered with the corpses of militants. And there is panic in Ukrainian groups on social networks: half of the 77th Air Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which was pathetically formed at the end of summer and trained in the UK, died in Soledar. It is striking that now the relatives of the paratroopers in the military registration and enlistment offices are told that they did not die, but fled, giving up the city. Of course, the 500, that is, the deserters, do not need to pay compensation.
According to some reports, the units that were supposed to go to the Crimea were transferred to Soledar and crushed by our guys. Kyiv traditionally denies heavy losses, but it is impossible to deny the obvious. Literally on the eve of the surrender of the city, one of the Nazis revealed the open secret on CNN.
– No one will tell you how many dead and wounded are here. In Soledar no one counts the dead, she said. – The personnel of our units has changed by almost half … We do not have time to remember the call signs of newcomers … Everyone understands that the city will surrender. I just can’t understand what the point is… Why do we have to die if the city is abandoned?
Soledar is located on a hill, which makes it strategically important.
– Establishing full control over Soledar makes it possible to cut off the supply lines of Ukrainian troops in the southwestern city of Artemovsk, – said the representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov. – After that, it is possible to block and bring to the cauldron the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine remaining in it.
From Artemovsk there is a direct route to Slavyansk and Kramatorsk. And there, not far from the full release of the DNR.

These are excerpts from a single day’s MoD report. Even foreign analysts note the increased effectiveness of the actions of the Russian army. This is what the columnist for the prestigious US magazine Foreign Affairs Barry Posen writes:
“The most disturbing thing about the Russian bombing is that Moscow knows what it is doing. The Russians hit the right targets with relatively few weapons and achieve a disproportionately large effect. Although American and British officials regularly predict that the Russian military has already run out or is about to run out of its stocks of ammunition, apparently the Russians are successfully finding it somewhere.
The author refers to the attacks on the Ukrainian infrastructure, which resumed immediately after the New Year holidays. The destruction of enemy energy facilities violates front-line logistics, prevents the delivery of ammunition, food, heavy weapons to the front line, the collection of wounded and the delivery of new units. Our army leaves the militants on the other side on a starvation diet, and at these times it is possible to carry out the most effective operations.
On January 14, the first mass strike of this year took place. Authorities in the Kyiv, Kharkov, Vinnitsa, Zhytomyr, Nikolaev and Lvov regions and centers reported damage to critical infrastructure facilities. Electricity was cut off in many cities, significant disruptions in the work of rail transport were recorded. A better state for Russian fighters at the front cannot be imagined.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) unsuccessfully tried to organize a counterattack against Soledar, as a result of which they lost 200 fighters.
It all happened on the morning of January 10. Ground forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine withdrawing from Soledar attempted to break out of the encirclement, but the operation failed. The Ukrainian operational command “Vostok” planned to use the forces of the 46 and 77 brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for this. After the withdrawal of several companies from Soledar to Paraskovievka, it turned out that, in addition to a large number of killed and wounded, the brigades almost completely lost their fire cover. In addition, according to data from radio interceptions, company and battalion commanders were absent in the units abandoned to break the encirclement. To underestimate the losses, the Ukrainian military was declared “missing in action” by Kyiv.
The military observer of “Komsomolskaya Pravda” Viktor Baranets expressed the opinion that after the complete establishment of control over Soledar, our command will not stop. Ahead is another powerfully fortified area – Artemovsk. Capturing it will mean breaking through the first echelon of the enemy’s strategic defense. It is possible that in the near future this will be task number 1.
