“According to the data of automatic monitoring of atmospheric air in the Sakhalin region, on July 27, in the settlements of the southern part of Sakhalin Island, there was a tendency to an increase in the concentrations of fine fractions of suspended particles, as well as carbon monoxide, caused by transporting smoke from large forest fires in the southeast of the Republic of Yakutia, in the Amur region and the Khabarovsk Territory,” the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry clarified that in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk the maximum concentration of pollutants increased by one and a half times compared to usual, but at the same time did not exceed the daily average indicators provided for by sanitary standards.
On July 28, after a change in the direction of the wind, the smoke in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and nearby settlements will cease to have a significant impact on air quality.
