According to the study’s director, director of the Cleveland Stanley Hazen Clinic’s Center for Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Prevention, erythrol (other names: erythritol, erythritol, E968 dietary supplement) has become the “baby darling” of the food industry; it is now one of the most common additives in low-carbohydrate products and those intended for people with diabetes.

This ingredient can be found in beverages, confectionery, baked goods, desserts, and other sweets. It is also found in chewing gum, oral hygiene products.

Many people use pure erythrol at home not only to sweeten tea and coffee, but also to prepare various dishes.

As aif.ru writes with reference to the results of the study published in the journal Nature Medicine, we are talking about several works. In fact, it was not even one study, but four.

First, the experts checked the blood erythrole content of 1,157 patients who were examined between 2004 and 2011. Those who had higher levels of the sweetener in their bodies were more likely to have heart attacks, strokes or die of heart disease and vascular.

In the second phase, the researchers tested the blood of almost 3,000 more people (2,149 from the US and 833 from Europe). The results were similar. Later work also led to initial findings.

Doctors advise avoiding the use of erythrol for people with a high risk of thrombosis, as well as those suffering from heart disease. At least until more research is done.
