Date: March 28, 2024 Time: 18:35:47

International solar energy producer Sonnedix has acquired a 136MWp solar photovoltaic portfolio in Spain from Qualitas Energy, an investment and management platform focused on renewable energy, energy transition and sustainability investments.

The portfolio is made up of 169 photovoltaic solar plants located throughout the country. All the plants began to be operational between 2007 and 2014, and are under the Spanish regulatory regime. The CEO of Sonnedix Axel Thiemannm has declared that they are “tremendously proud of this operation, one of the most important in recent years that, without a doubt, reinforces our positioning and consolidation as the leading independent producer of renewable energy in Spain.

“This acquisition demonstrates our capacity and dedication to boost energy in the country – where we began our journey in 2009 and where today we have a total capacity of more than 1.4GW – expanding our portfolio of projects and building buildings such as Qualitas Energy, who share with us a vision of a future in which renewable energies will lead the improvement of the quality of life of our communities”, he added.

“We are delighted to have a partner like Sonnedix, who accompanies us in our mission to decarbonise the global economy, and we are proud to continue helping to consolidate the Spanish energy market. In addition, this operation demonstrates our purchasing, financing and operational optimization capabilities, and allows us to continue strengthening our business strategy”, said Iñigo Olaguíbel, founding partner and CEO of Qualitas Energy.

Sonnedix’s global platform is present in ten countries, and has a total capacity of 8GW of renewable energy. In Spain, where it has been present since its inception in 2009, it has reached an operating capacity of more than 770MW, and more than 850MW in projects under construction and different phases of development. In addition, the company continues to expand its global portfolio through the acquisition and development of projects in Spain and in other markets of OECD member countries.

For its part, Qualitas Energy has more than 16 years of experience in the renewable energy sector and has recently announced the launch of its fifth flagship fund, Q-Energy V (QE V), with which it will invest mainly in assets both in operation and under development in Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy and Poland. In November 2022, the vehicle reached a first closing of more than 1,100 million euros. Sonnedix was advised for this operation by Pérez-Llorca as legal, fiscal and in the negotiation of the purchase and sale contracts; and by G-advisory as technical advisor. While Qualitas Energy was advised by Santander as financial advisor and by Gómez-Acebo y Pombo as legal advisor
