For the first time, Sotheby’s and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) will team up for an exclusive auction. WWD writes about it.
The auction will take place at Sotheby’s from November 27 to December 12, concurrent with the Luxury Week sale in New York. Part of the auction will take place online. It is not known if there will be an offline format.
They will display outfits from America’s top designers and rare items once owned by CFDA members and collectors. It also features clothing from a variety of styles and eras, from catchy red carpet looks to everyday looks that helped shape American fashion.
All proceeds from the sale will go towards the CFDA fund and subsequently towards scholarships and business mentoring to educate the next generation of American fashion.
Earlier, Mary Austin, a friend and former lover of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, auctioned off 1,500 of the musician’s art and personal items at Sotheby’s.
