The sales volume of Spanish olive oil in China in the 2021-2022 campaign grew by 10.25%, reaching 45,840 tons of liquid gold. Not only have they noticed sales, but also their value, which has shot up by 48.08%, to close to 177 million euros. This is indicated by the data from Chinese customs corresponding to the first nine months of last year analyzed by the Olive Oil Interprofessional and collected by Europa PRess.
The president of the interprofessional, Pedro Barato, welcomed the data recorded in the Asian country. “In the last campaign we exported almost 46,000 tons of olive oil to the Asian giant, 10.25% more than the previous campaign. To give us a precise idea of what that figure means, our closest competitor exported 2,830 tons, 16 times less”, he explained.
Specifically, this advance in sales has allowed China to position itself this year as the second largest purchaser of Spanish oil outside of Europe, behind only the United States. In addition, the Chinese rise to fifth place among the best clients in the world for national oil, surpassing Japan and the United Kingdom, which traditionally competed for that position until last year. Barato stressed that these results are the result of the work that Spanish companies have been doing in that market, since 2009 with the support of the Spanish Olive Oil Interprofessional.
Concluded the first phase of promotion
Thus, last Sunday, coinciding with the celebration of the Chinese New Year, the first phase of the promotional campaign that was launched four months ago ended. “The slogan of the new campaign in China is very simple: ‘Olive Oils from Spain. The New Fashion’. We hope this campaign will bear fruit. We are convinced that China will be a country of the future and fashion for olive oils. olive oil from Spain”, Barato stressed.
The interprofessional has made Spanish oil known with actions such as the implementations carried out on the facades of some of the most emblematic skyscrapers in Beijing (Wangfujing and Lafayette) and Shanghai (Puerto Global, White Magnolia Plaza or the Metro City). In addition, the projection of the spot on the Global Harbor Towers of the economic capital of the country stands out, two twin towers almost 250 meters high.
