According to Sputnik, the court has already decided to detain Kasem.
“Today the journalist has already been transferred to Riga Central Prison,” the report says.
According to the agency, Kasem is accused of violating EU economic sanctions against the Russian Federation, as well as espionage.
It is noted that Marat Kasem is a citizen of Latvia, but works in Moscow and on December 30, he arrived in Riga for family reasons.
In 2019, a journalist was detained in Vilnius for a “threat to national security”.
