This is the first antiviral agent for the specific prevention of this infection. Until now, in medical practice, there was no vaccine or other medicines that would save RSVI patients.

The insidiousness of respiratory syncytial virus infection lies in the fact that it has a very bad effect on the most vulnerable representatives of humanity – young children, the elderly and patients with immunodeficiency conditions. In them, the infection can progress, causing bronchiolitis and pneumonia.

Furthermore, RSVI is one of the leading causes of serious infections in newborns and young children. It is also often the cause of widespread outbreaks in neonatal and pediatric wards, among hospitalized adults, and in nursing homes.

In adults and older children, in most cases, RSVI occurs as a disease of the upper respiratory tract with a temperature of 37.1-38 degrees in the form of rhinitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis. The total duration of the disease is from five days to three weeks.

The RSV/Flu-01E vaccine has already passed preclinical tests in animals. Now doctors are studying the safety and immunogenicity of the drug with a single intranasal injection, the information is collected and analyzed. The tests are carried out on volunteers, the group of which included healthy people from 18 to 60 years old.

As the scientists-developers explained, the results will be summed up by the summer.
