Muscovites know this manufacturer from Verkhnyaya Pyshma in the Sverdlovsk region from the Lastochka trains that run on the Moscow Central Diameters, and from other railways in the country passengers travel on its Finist train. “A year ago, President Vladimir Putin confirmed the plan for high-speed traffic in Russia,” recalled Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev during the signing of agreements between the companies involved in the creation of Russia’s first high-speed train. Within its framework, five projects will be implemented that will improve the mobility of 80% of the Russian population, one of them is “Moscow – St. Petersburg”, thanks to which the new trains will run at a speed of 350-400 kilometers per hour, reducing the travel time between the two capitals to 2 hours 15 minutes.”
The development of the first-born is carried out by the Engineering Center for Railway Transport, created by Russian Railways and the Sinara Group in the capital, on the territory of the Skolkovo Innovation Center. The Moscow government also included a 30% stake in the authorized capital of this center. So the “white gyrfalcon” and its chick. “All decisions have been made, most of the documents have been signed, I think that in the near future a contract for construction work will be signed – the last in the series of documents for the launch of this project,” said Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, commenting on the event. He is confident that the project will be successful and will contribute to the development of domestic mechanical engineering.
80 percent of Russians will travel on such trains.
Oleg Belozerov, General Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Russian Railways OJSC, shared the details of how exactly this will happen. “More than 100 companies are involved in the creation of the White Gyrfalcon train,” he said. “Almost everything has already been disassembled into its components, and each element has been handed over to our Russian manufacturers at the first stage. The completion of the train is expected to reach more than 80%.” According to Belozerov, high-speed traffic for the development of Russian railways is not even a step forward, but a “big leap” into the future. “And in 2028, after all the necessary tests and certifications, this beauty will move in the direction of Moscow-St. Petersburg,” the head of Russian Railways continued. He also promised that all the wishes expressed by visitors to the exhibition “Manege Station Moscow 2030” will be taken into account after inspecting the carriage of the new train.
RG correspondents also sat in the White Gyrfalcon together with other potential passengers. After almost 30 degrees of heat outside, it was especially pleasant to enter the cool first-class carriage, whose comfort, as in the entire train, will be guaranteed by a modern air conditioning and air purification system. We appreciated the chairs with the possibility of adjusting the backrest and footrest. Small tables with wireless charging for gadgets (no need to bother with an adapter). Practical luggage shelves. Passenger doors will open and close automatically.
There will be 4 classes in total on the train: business, first, comfort and standard. There are 8 carriages for 460 passengers, but if necessary they can be doubled and 16 carriages can be sent on the road. Starting from the Leningradsky station, the “White Gyrfalcon” will reach Zelenograd in 14 minutes, Veliky Novgorod in 29 minutes and Tver in 39 minutes. Traffic intervals will also be reduced: already in 2028 they will be 15-20 minutes, and from 2030 – from 10-15 minutes.
