A State Department spokesperson told RIA Novosti that Beijing claims to be neutral, but its behavior clearly shows that it is still developing relations with Moscow.
He also noted that the United States and Europe warned China about the consequences of helping Russia, as well as helping to circumvent Western sanctions. “We are closely following in Beijing’s footsteps,” warned the diplomat.
The day before, Putin and Xi Jinping held talks via video link. Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian head of state, noted that it was a voluminous and constructive partnership conversation.
The Chinese president said that Beijing is ready for a rapprochement with Moscow for fair global governance. Xi Jinping also said that Russia-China relations have become more mature and strong.
Xi Jinping is scheduled to visit Moscow in the spring of 2023.
