“Currently, 46 employees of fire and rescue units, 12 units of special equipment, 45 traffic police officers and volunteers, six units of vehicles, and one team from the Anapa and Gelendzhik forest fire centre are involved in extinguishing the fire,” the mayor wrote on his Telegram channel.
The city head said that buses were prepared to evacuate 200 people from the adjacent recreation centers “Moryak” and “Romantic”. According to preliminary data, 130 children have already been evacuated from the recreation centers.
According to Kravchenko, a firefighter and a helicopter from Gelendzhik arrived in the port city at around 2 pm. A firefighting helicopter also began extinguishing the fire in the mountainous area.
Two more fire brigades from neighbouring Anapa have also arrived in Novorossiysk.
The preliminary area of the fire, the mayor of Novorossiysk added, is now 22 hectares.
According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for Kuban, the aviation department dropped 30 tons of water. About 160 specialists and 40 pieces of equipment are working on the scene.
