Stellantis announces new stoppages due to lack of supplies at the Vigo plant

Date: April 2, 2023 Time: 08:23:12

The management of the Vigo plant of the Stellantis Group has informed its workers this Friday that they will have to face new interruptions in the production phase, due to the lack of materials to carry out a correct supply.

Consequently, the activity of System 1 is suspended in the night shift this Friday and in the three shifts on Monday, the 6th. In principle, the forecast is to resume production in this system, which assembles the Peugeot 2008, Peugeot 301 and C-Elyséee on Tuesday the 7th, at 6 am.

Supply problems have been recurring for many months and so far this year they have been especially hard on production System 1, which less than two weeks ago was also forced to stop on a Friday and resume activity the following Tuesday.

This news has come the same day that the company has announced several problems with the lack of semiconductors at the plant in Figueruelas (Zaragoza). Opel Crossland and Citroen C3 Aircross on line 1 and the Opel Corsa on line 2.

Although Stellantis is the second manufacturer with the most sales of electric vehicles in all of Europe, these do not reach sufficient solvency to sustain their production at a time when the supply market is still experiencing the effects of the economic crisis. However, the firm obtained a net profit of 16,779 million euros during 2022, increasing its profit by 26% compared to the previous year. On the other hand, Stellantis’ turnover rose 18% to 179,600 million.
