Stellantis cancels shifts again five days after stopping in Vigo and Zaragoza

Date: September 13, 2024 Time: 20:38:29

Stellantis has to re-hang the strike sign at one of its plants due to a lack of supply of components. On this occasion, the stoppage is again at the Figueruelas plant (Zaragoza) and will affect several production shifts this Tuesday. Specifically, the shift for tomorrow and this afternoon has been canceled in the two production lines, one, which manufactures the Opel Crossland and the Citroen C3 Aircross, and both, for the Opel Corsa.

The lack of components also forced last week to suspend the three productive shifts on Thursday (night, morning and afternoon) and two on Friday the 8th on both production lines. But it is not the only factory affected by the lack of supplies. On September 7, the multinational automobile factory in Vigo announced to its workers new suspensions of production in the so-called ‘system 1’ due to lack of supplies.

The management explained to the employees that “due to force majeure, as a result of the lack of supplies”, the production of that unit was stopped in the three shifts last Thursday and the morning shift on Friday. The so-called ‘system 1’, which is responsible for assembling the Citroën C-Elysée model and those of Peugeot 301 and 2008, also had no activity in the afternoon and night shifts on Wednesday.

Last week it also suffered production interruptions due to lack of supplies, as happened to ‘system 2’, of vans and minivans. In August, the factory also suspended shifts before and after vacations due to these supply problems.

Plug-in hybrid market leader

Stellantis leads the Spanish market for plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles in the first eight months of 2023 with 16,507 cumulative registrations and a share of 21.3%, according to data released this Monday by the company. Regarding plug-in hybrid vehicles, Stellantis accumulated 8,306 units in the first eight months, occupying first place in the sales classification, which represents one in five registrations of cars with this technology in Spain.

In the case of electric vehicles, the group led sales with 8,201 registrations and a 22.2% share. The group has several models of plug-in hybrid vehicles, such as the DS 7 E-TENSE 4×4, the Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-In Hybrid or the Jeep 4xe range.

In August, Stellantis had two of its models among the ten best-sellers with this technology, the Peugeot 3008, third with 1,761 cumulative registrations and the Citroën C5 Aircross, sixth with 1,253.

In the case of the electric vehicle, its weight is even greater, since it has three production plants in Spain: the Opel Corsa-e is manufactured in Zaragoza, Vigo produces the Peugeot e-2008 and the Peugeot e-Rifter, e-Partner , Citroën ë-Berlingo, Opel Combo-e and Fiat E-Doblò and in Madrid the Citroën C4 and the Citroën C4 X.

Stellantis also entered the Top Ten Best-Selling Electric Vehicles with the Fiat 500, which is fourth with registrations, and the Citroën, ë C4-C4, manufactured in Madrid, in sixth position with 972 registrations.
