One of the most successful and controversial series of this spring suddenly found itself in the middle of a scandal. After five episodes of The King and the Jester, the widow of the leader of the rock band of the same name, Mikhail Gorshenev, or Gorshka, as his fans call him, said that the film defames the memory of her husband and everything that happens in the frame is very painful for her and her children. Olga Gorsheneva is raising her 13-year-old daughter Alexandra from the KiSh leader: she was only four years old when her famous father passed away. In addition, Olga’s eldest daughter from her first marriage, Anastasia, who is now 23 years old, was also raised by Pot as her own.
“Many who were friends with Misha are at a loss because the image that is produced in the series is not true,” the widow wrote on social media, mentioning that fans ask her for her opinion on the series every day. – Mikhail was not shown from the wrong side, but as if they deliberately exaggerated weaknesses and turned him into an antagonist. The accents are wrong. The director should have dived deeper and not broadcast a superficial image to the masses, based on the opinion of two people. I think this series denigrates his memory. When I gave it the go-ahead, it was about something else. And with what we see at the end, I totally disagree.
The widow’s opinion was shared by hundreds of fans of The King and the Jester. They say that in the series the genius Gorshenev, the owner of a unique talent and a big heart, is shown as some kind of narrow-minded drug addict, a “half-dummy” anarchist who “walks with his mouth open and makes inarticulate sounds.” And this against the background of a completely positive Prince – the second leader of the group, Andrei Knyazev, who became the co-producer of the series and was generally very pleased with him.
However, the film’s director Rustam Mosafir, who was contacted by the KP.RU website, disagreed with Gorshka’s widow’s claims.
“If the viewer sees a character up close, perhaps he himself is narrow-minded,” Mosafir replied. – It seems to me, on the contrary, Gorshenyov turned out to be very versatile and very deep. This is a dramatic and moving character. And we still have a film production. There is the truth of life, and there is the cinematographic truth: it is more important. Movies are not about looking out the window. If you feel like it, watch TV or YouTube videos. And the cinema reflects the inner truth. And in our series, the inner truth is revealed 100%. Nothing else is given.
– Olga Gorsheneva personally expressed her dissatisfaction with you?
I don’t even know her, I’ve never seen her! Fortunately or unfortunately, we do not know each other. And this interests me little. I’m in the movie drama, not knowing who was who. In every work there is a hero, and everyone sees him to the extent of his cultural development, vision or inner state. It seems strange to me to say that we are smearing Pot’s memory. Even painful. This is too fanciful. Well, the widow is probably a pretty biased viewer. And although I personally do not know Olga, in the cinema it seems to me that we did the image of her perfectly.
– The fans are unhappy that there are too many scenes about a musician’s drug addiction in the series…
– Well, if the person really was a drug addict, and we all know it very well. Well, let’s all forget that Freddie Mercury was gay! Understand that the dark side allows you to make the character interesting. Dark energy characters in movies will always be more interesting than positive characters. But in life… In life, of course, this is a tragedy. A talented boy burned out by drugs. It would be better if people noticed something else: that we reveal this problem with the movie. I’ve never used heroin, but I know what it is. I have many friends who left this world because of drugs. And I know what it looks like: I am not very young yet, I lived in the nineties. Therefore, it is strange to say that the leader of “Kish” was just a cheerful guy. Ha ha! It is not so simple.
He, like everyone who becomes addicted to drugs, apparently wanted to expand his consciousness. Vulnerable nature, subtle soul. It was difficult for him, and he tried to cope. However, the negative reviews of the director do not offend at all.
– There is a work of art, and it is very good that it provokes polarized opinions. It would be worse if it didn’t cause them at all, added the director of The King and the Fool.
