She is a yuhitsu, that is, one who writes letters on request about the most complex and delicate topics, from condolences to declarations of love. By understanding the complexities of other people’s fate and relationships, Hatoko learns to understand not only others, but also herself and to understand the harmony in the landscape of one of the oldest cities in Japan, Kamakura. The book is a continuation of the novel “Tsubaki’s Stationery”, but you can read the works in any order.

Cormac McCarthy, Inostranka Publishing House

The classic American long-form novel has been compared to Joyce’s Ulysses, Steinbeck’s Cannery Row, and texts by Sorokin and Faulkner. Vadim Vernik, AST publishing house

In 1996, journalist and TV presenter Vadim Vernik shot a film about Maya Plisetskaya and talked a lot with the great ballerina. The timing of the picture did not allow to include everything, but the unique material was not lost, but became the basis of a very honest and deep book, free from myths and stereotypes that so often surround the names of public figures.

Fernando Aramburu, Corpus Publishing House

After the epic novel “Patria”, translated into four languages, Arambura was called “The Leo Tolstoy of the Basque Country” and the book was filmed, turning it into a popular television series. In the new work, the author pays attention not to external events, but to the inner world of the hero, Tony, a 50-year-old philosophy professor. Tony’s life seems quite successful, but in a year he plans to voluntarily end it, and before that, to complete all his affairs and understand himself, for which he begins to keep a frank and sometimes painful diary.

The British historian wrote his work in chronological order, but not limited to the main events. Based on letters, diaries and documents, he tried to understand the political and social reasons for the main catastrophe of the last century. The book is beautifully designed and would be a great gift for a history buff.
