“The Federal Council on March 3, 2023 temporarily eased the sanctions against Syria,” the government said in a statement. According to Swiss leaders, this is necessary to guarantee the work of humanitarian organizations that provide assistance to the victims of the February earthquake.
Under Swiss law, the provision of goods or economic resources to sanctioned persons is prohibited.
Recall that on February 6 in the central part of Turkey with an interval of nine hours there were two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6, which also affected the northern part of Syria.
In Turkey alone, the death toll in the disaster exceeded 45 thousand people, taking into account the Syrian deaths, the figure is even higher. Hundreds of thousands of people were left homeless and many important infrastructure facilities were destroyed.
