A high-ranking Chinese official is expected to arrive on Tuesday, a source told the agency.
Earlier, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin confirmed that such a visit was being prepared, but did not disclose details, only promising that the details would be released in a timely manner.
Wang Yi is expected to present Beijing’s proposals on a political settlement of the Ukrainian conflict in Moscow. As he stated at the Munich Security Conference, China is committed to facilitating peace talks and playing a constructive role in them.
“The international community is well aware of who is calling for dialogue and fighting for peace, and who is lighting the flames and fomenting confrontation. We urge the US side to seriously reflect on the role they have played, to do something that would really help. de-escalate the situation and move forward with peaceful negotiations,” said Wang Wenbin, commenting on Beijing’s position on the Ukrainian conflict. “China hopes to work with all parties to continue efforts to bring peace to the world in the near future,” he said.
