Telefónica and Pontegadea, the investment arm of Amancio Ortega, have started their journey in Telxius after buying their share from KKR, with the departure of the asset manager from the board of the company and the establishment of its joint venture Pontel as sole administrator.
The two parties have disbursed 215 million euros to buy 40% of the company that owned KKR and continue to operate the submarine cable business after the sale of the telecommunications towers
After giving way to the two directors of KKR, Telefónica and Pontegadea have changed the bylaws to reduce the number of seats and have given entry to the director and CEO of Pontegadea, Roberto Cibeira Moreiras, and the director of the Office of the President of Telefónica, María García -Legaz.
On the contrary, the financial director of Telefónica Infra, Natalia Sainz, and the director of the firm, José Manuel Santero, have taken the opposite path, according to the records of the Official Gazette of the Mercantile Registry (BORME) consulted by Europa Press.
The company recently announced the use of a new submarine cable in a consortium with América Móvil (Carlos Slim) to link Guatemala and the United States. With this new cable, called Tikal, the Telxius network will add more than 82,000 kilometers of submarine cable and seven state-of-the-art cables.
